Congratulations,my dear!

You being the devoted advocate of everything Dutch you are, and with Winter approaching, I hope this is an appropriate way to share in your celebrations (and please don't mind the twist) :-):

Wow, what a spectacular selection. With old-fashioned Pieten (zo langzamerhand begint echt iedereen genoeg te krijgen van het lichtbruine Piet en Regenboog Piet idee!) and a very modern Sint. And the skating pictures are just great. The half-wooden houses suggest Noord-Holland, don't you think? West-Friesland. Or perhaps even Friesland itself.

It's a great pic - I wonder how those in wooden shoes managed to stay upright!

Thank you for such a lovely Dutch gift!

I'm not following the Pieten discussion very closely - indeed 'om genoeg van te krijgen' - but I know it's still raging. 'Lichtbruine Piet en Regenboog Piet' had not reached me yet...makes me wonder how the 'intocht' will look this year! :-)

You were right about the location. I went back to the source and it stated it was pictured in Volendam in 1919 (How could I forget to note and mention it in the first place? *g*)

Wooden shoes? Perhaps they achieved it, like I prudently walk on snow: never lift a foot, just slide them? (Am getting old and stiff, you know.) :-)

The other picture is supposed to be of the Elfstedentocht.

Oh, Elfstedentocht...when comest thou?!
